The Blue Shift: The CD album (41 min.)
The accompanying CD contains the 8 tracks of music, without the live performance introductions and commentary. As a special bonus, this CD also includes a version of Maurice Ravel’s Bolero recorded by Glover in the early 1970s. This previously unreleased track is performed by the legendary Juice Quartet, featuring bassist William Parker, pianist Kasa Allah and drummer Abu Kali. Though this band never recorded commercially, they were a major fixture in New York during the early years of the loft movement, often performing at Glover’s own Firehouse Theater. This recording is one of several self-produced projects that the band initiated during their tenure. In an apropos demonstration of universes converging, the track features a jazz-infused arrangement of this beloved composition from the European classical canon.
